Playstation Vita Sales Update

Are things as bleak as they sound?

If you haven't heard by now, the Playstation Vita (successor to the PSP) has been released in Japan to somewhat disappointing sales.

We first heard about this around a week ago. In its first 48 hours on sale, there were 325,000 units sold - this is a respectable number. But in the next full week it sold little over 70,000 - which isn't so impressive.

Today we found out that in the time between the 26th December and 1st January the Vita sold another 42,648 units. Even less than the disappointing previous week.

If you think it doesn't sound too bad, take into account that the Vita was outsold 4:1 by the 3DS, and even its predecessor, the PSP, outsold it by around 20,000 units.

But are things really as bad as they're being made out to be? These sales bring the total number of PS Vita's sold to 440,000 which may not be as good as other systems but is still just under half a million units already!

We still believe in the Vita, and with the UK and US launches fast approaching we think it can turn things around with some good advertising....and maybe a price cut - it worked for the 3DS after all.

Keep checking the Broken Console for more details, and be sure to come back for our feature: "5 Consoles That Sold Worse Than The Playstation Vita" which goes live within the next few days.
